![]() ![]() Due to the fact that 2K did not provide us with a prelude, they did not want to repeat the same prelude three times in a row. NBA 2K22's current-gen MyPLAYER builder mechanism will very certainly be identical to last year's. Paint beasts are essentially running the park, those two builds are the meta build, sometimes there's a lockdown defender, in the mix there and there's just simply no variety in that department, it's pretty safe to say 2K21 both on current and next gen they need some tweaking for 2K22 to be great. There's no overpowered build because in 2K21 next gen, most of you know that six foot seven power forwards were able to essentially do anything and everything that you could want a player to do, they got ankle breaker, quick first step on hall of fame and if you made it right, you could also get hall of fame intimidator, gold pickpocket, gold range extender, and your build will have like a 95 driving dunk, 94 3 PT, etc. VC can be used in the build system, while NBA MT can’t. If you were to create a player that's a 99 overall back in like 2K13, there were no such things as archetypes there was no such thing as a build you could create a 99 overall center back in the day and have like 99 speed on him, it was just absolutely absurd or at least close to it, just keep that in mind basically there's going to be a build system. Let’s start with the most obvious one and it's like this basically it's confirmed, there's gonna be a build system for NBA 2K22. Snark aside, it will be missing out on some benefits being a prior gen port, but it is what it is, for another year at least. There's going to be a ton of rumors and leaked confirmed gameplay just like every single year, in the summer when in reality it's just someone using PC mods right like there's going to be a million videos out about that but these two rumors. ![]() Then again, even when PS4 and X1 were the latest consoles, the PC port of that version wasn't a priority for 2K, either. That is of course countered by the downside that the PC version will not be a priority. We'll see.Īs was the case last year, the silver lining is that modding tools will likely be compatible or easily adaptable. If NBA 2K22 Next Gen likewise basically feels like Prior Gen with a shinier coat of paint, that mitigates the disappointment somewhat for me, anyway. The loading times, the re-vamped MyNBA, and some graphical enhancements were genuinely things that the PC version missed out on by not being a Next Gen port, but I wasn't blown away by NBA 2K21 on PS5 when it came to how the game played and how much I enjoyed it compared to my time with the PC and PS4 versions before it came out. Honestly, while there was some improvement in NBA 2K21 and I did end up spending more time with the PS5 version, for a game that was supposed to be "built from the ground up", it had a lot of familiar legacy issues. The real disappointment, or perhaps comfort, will come when the game is released and we see how good it is (or isn't). I assume it'll be a PS5/XSX port at some point, but it's a kick in the teeth that PC users will have to wait at least another year. Clearly, that isn't the case after all.Īlthough it's obviously a different company, Madden 22 being a Last Gen/Prior Gen port did make me wonder whether Take-Two would follow suit with NBA 2K22, and looking back, it might've prepared me for it. History suggested that it was quite possible, even likely, that NBA 2K22 would be Next Gen as NBA 2K15 had been back in 2014. I wasn't surprised that NBA 2K21 wasn't Next Gen because that version came out in November with the new consoles, as was the case with NBA 2K14 PS4 and X1 back in 2013. ![]()
